“Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative evidence-based psychotherapy that conceptualizes every person as having many parts or selves. Yes, we’re all multiple. Some of these parts assumed extreme roles (think controller, rager, or feeling states like hopeless or anxious) in order to protect us. Through identifying and working with these parts, we are able to allow them to relax into their original states and heal the exiled wounded parts. This allows Self to be the conductor of all of our parts. Like an orchestra, if one part is louder, out of tune or not showing up when needed, the music doesn’t flow. When one of our parts is too loud, overused, or not showing up, we aren’t in flow and suffer. By working with these parts, we become more connected to Self, other, and spirit; the place of ease, flow, peace, and knowing.”
